Established in 1958, Chengdu Museum is currently the largest comprehensive city museum in Southwest China and holds the status of a national first-class museum. Located in Tianfu Square, it covers an area of about 11,333 square meters with a total floor area of around 65,000 square meters, of which approximately 20,000 square meters are dedicated to exhibitions. Since the opening of its new venue in 2016, the museum has welcomed nearly 16 million visitors. It boasts three permanent exhibitions: "Full Bloom of the Brocade City: History and Culture Display of Chengdu (Ancient Times, Recent Historical Period, and Folk Customs)", "Shadow Play and Puppetry of China", and "Man and Nature: Donations from Kenneth E. Behring". The collection comprises nearly 300,000 pieces of historical artifacts, shadow puppets, masterpieces of modern and contemporary paintings and calligraphy, and other cultural relics, spanning from the Neolithic period to the Republic of China. Chengdu Museum is not only an urban cultural landmark but also a spiritual homeland for the people of Chengdu, preserving and presenting the city's splendid past. It is committed to enriching temporary exhibitions to build a bridge for cultural communication worldwide. The museum has hosted a variety of social education activities to expand the connotations behind cultural relics and exhibitions, applying the Internet and new media to present its functions in a more rapid and large-scale manner. Chengdu Museum has obtained a series of remarkable achievements, including nearly 30 national-level awards and nearly 100 provincial and municipal level honors. It has held over 60 high-quality original and introduced exhibitions, with the level and influence of its exhibitions ranking among the advanced in domestic museums.
