People have been drawn to the natural wilderness for centuries, but always crave a haven during their adventures. Set near China’s historic Silk Road, Jangala Dunhuang perfectly encapsulates this search for sanctuary. Taking its name from the Sanskrit for ‘desert garden’, its entire ethos – from its mountain backdrop to its beautiful rooms and suites – puts guests at the heart of the natural world. But Jangala Dunhuang is so much more than a luxury boutique hotel. Inspired by its connection to lively Dunhuang city, it also celebrates art, space and local traditions. The Living Room fuses minimalist marble décor with cosy sofas, and is also a boutique and art exhibition space. Outside, the Water View Theatre puts on a range of shows all year round, while the breathtaking rooms and suites make luxurious exhibits of desert and sky. In between delicious meals in the Silk & Spice restaurants, and cocktails on the Mirage Bar rooftop, salute the sun with a spot of yoga, or press ‘pause’ in the hotel’s Meditation Space.
