Il Van Abbemuseum ospita circa 2700 opere d'arte contemporanea. Circa 100.000 visitatori all'anno vengono a vedere la variegata collezione, che non comprende solo opere contemporanee olandesi e belghe come quelle del fondatore del museo Henri van Abbe, ma anche opere di Pablo Picasso, El Lissitzky e Wassily Kandinsky. L'edificio originario del museo, risalente al 1936, è stato ampliato nel 2003 con una nuova ala straordinariamente moderna per soddisfare le esigenze della sua crescente collezione. Il museo è aperto fino alle 21:00 il giovedì.
