I resti archeologici di Kourion, che nell'antichità era una delle città-regni più importanti dell'isola, sono tra i più impressionanti dell'isola e gli scavi hanno portato alla luce molti reperti significativi, che possono essere visti sul sito. La città-regno fu costruita sulle colline della zona e dominava e controllava la fertile valle del fiume Kouris. Il regno, un tempo fiorente, fu infine distrutto da un grave terremoto nel 365 d.C. Il magnifico teatro greco-romano, il fulcro del sito, fu costruito nel II secolo a.C. e ampliato nel II secolo d.C. Il teatro è stato restaurato ed è ora utilizzato per spettacoli musicali e teatrali all'aperto, soprattutto durante i mesi estivi, rendendolo uno degli scenari più popolari per eventi culturali di alto livello.
