Some of the best fishing in the Southeastern United States is found amidst the incomparable beauty of Callaway Gardens. Our 13 lakes are renowned for enormous bream, shellcrackers (giant red-ear sunfish) and trophy-sized bass, and several lakes are seasonally stocked with rainbow trout. We offer weekend fly-fishing schools once a month from February through November, private fly-fishing instruction, and guided bass and fly-fishing trips, all led by a staff of expert instructors and guides. Kingfisher Outfitters, overlooking picturesque Mountain Creek Lake, stocks an excellent selection of rods and reels, flies, clothing, accessories, gift items and more. Bonus: Since the lakes at Callaway Gardens are private, you don't need a fishing license.

Boat and equipment rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Guided excursions and private instruction require a minimum of seven days notice. For reservations and more information, call 706.663.5142 or email fishing@callawaygardens.com.

Lake View, Callaway Gardens’ original golf course featuring wider fairways and more water holes, complements the more demanding Mountain View course. It reflects the philosophy of Gardens founder Cason Callaway, who was fond of saying that if a golfer lifts his or her head on a shot, they should see something beautiful.
This challenging but playable layout is located inside the beautiful Callaway Gardens. Please see our website for golf fees and cart rental.
Callaway Gardens’ Birds of Prey program is presented with the permission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Since its debut in 2000, the program has helped educate more than 1 million visitors about man’s impact on raptors and other forms of wildlife. These magnificent creatures – which cannot be released into the wild, due either to injury or having developed an unnatural association with humans, known as “imprinting” – demonstrate their strength, speed and natural instincts in daily free-flighted shows. Several birds appear at each show, swooping overhead and giving guests an up-close look “on the glove,” while our raptor experts explain how man’s actions affect their wellbeing.
Families with younger children may prefer to see the Woodland Critters show (Mondays and Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.), a new hands-on program designed especially with the pre-K crowd in mind.
The Birds of Prey show is an attraction that is located inside Callaway Gardens and is included in your stay.
This 40-acre garden is home to more than 3,000 native and hybrid azaleas, which explode into a colorful palette of pinks, reds, lavendars and whites each Spring. Additional plantings include 2,000 trees and shrubs that provide an array of foliage and blooms throughout the year. With wide walking paths that criss-cross the hillside gardens, the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl is a delightful spot for a leisurely stroll in any season. A gazebo overlooking Falls Creek Lake is an ideal resting spot from which to drink in the picture-postcard beauty.
The Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl is named in memory of brothers Fuller Earle Callaway Sr., and Ely Reeves Callaway Sr. Fuller Callaway was the father of Gardens founder Cason J. Callaway. Ely Callaway was the father of the late Ely Callaway Jr., founder of Callaway Golf. Ely Callaway Jr. funded the garden with a $3 million donation, and it opened in 1999.

Nestled in a serene forest surrounding Falls Creek Lake, the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel was carefully planned by Cason Callaway himself as a tribute to his mother. Inspired by 16th-century Gothic chapels, it is highlighted by a variety of materials native to its region, including fieldstone quartz. Beautifully crafted stained glass windows depict pines, soft woods and hardwoods, as well as the Southern forest in a progression of seasons. The majestic sounds of the chapel’s custom-built Möller pipe organ ring out during seasonal concerts. Today, the chapel is used for small weddings as well as a Non-Denominational Service each Sunday morning throughout the Summer.

Flights of fancy await you in the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, where hundreds of butterflies flutter freely about in one of North America’s largest glass-enclosed tropical butterfly conservatories. The Day Butterfly Center is a living, dynamic environment in which a variety of tropical plants nourish the residents and new arrivals emerge from their chrysalides, dry their wings and begin their very first wing-beats.

The Pioneer Log Cabin offers a glimpse back to a time when life was, in many ways, much simpler – but also more difficult. Days were spent doing chores necessary just to survive. Children played with toys made from common materials like corn husks, sticks and rocks. Homes were lit by oil lamps at night, and bodies were so tired that even thin mattresses were no obstacle to a good night’s sleep.
This particular cabin, comprising two rooms, was constructed of yellow pine in the 1830s and occupied for a century, with the last family to live there filling it to overflowing with 15 people. In 1960, the structure was relocated from neighboring Troup County to Callaway Gardens, where it serves as a reminder of the challenges our forefathers faced on a daily basis.
The Pioneer Log Cabin is an attraction inside Callaway Gardens. The admission fee to the Gardens is included in your stay.

Virginia Hand Callaway (1900-1995), co-founder of Callaway Gardens, was passionate about connecting man with the natural world. Her legacy continues at this beautiful facility that bears her name. Nestled in a wooded environment on the edge of Mountain Creek Lake, the 35,000-square-foot facility is the logical starting point for a guest’s tour of Callaway Gardens.
In the main lobby, a staffed information desk and interactive kiosks provide an overview of the Gardens’ past and present, and a small theater features “The Story of Callaway Gardens,” a continuously playing orientation video. The Discovery Center also houses an auditorium, an exhibit hall, an education wing and the Discovery Gift Shop. Outside is the Vaughn-Jordan Backyard Wildlife Habitat Garden, the Discovery Café and the Discovery Amphitheater, host to our Free-Flighted Birds of Prey Shows.

For almost 50 years, guests have enjoyed the unique Callaway Gardens experience. From the stunning floral displays to the lovely 14,000 acres of natural woodlands, this is the place to do absolutely nothing but revel in the gentle nature around you as it refreshes your soul. At 9,049 acres, Georgia’s largest state park is a hiker’s and backpacker’s haven. More than 40 miles of trails, including the popular 23 mile Pine Mountain Trail, wind through hardwood and pines, over creeks and past small waterfalls. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southwest of Atlanta. Above King’s Gap is Dowdell’s Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt built the Little White House in 1932 while governor of New York, prior to being inaugurated as president in 1933. He first came to Warm Springs in 1924 hoping to find a cure for the infantile paralysis (polio) that had struck him in 1921. Swimming in the 88-degree, buoyant spring waters brought him no miracle cure, but it did bring improvement. During FDR’s presidency and the Great Depression, he developed many New Deal Programs (such as the Rural Electrification Administration) based upon his experiences in this small town.
One of the area's most popular attractions, Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari, offers a unique experience. Visitors can see, touch, and feed hundreds of exotic animals - a true worldwide safari!
