5,436エーカー（2,200ヘクタール）の広さを誇る康渓草原は、北京最大の草原で、八達嶺長城から西に9.3マイル（15km）、北京の繁華街から50マイル（80km）の場所にあります。西に官亭湖、北に海祖山に隣接するこの草原は、エキゾチックなモンゴルの生活を体験するのに最適な場所のひとつです。夏は涼しく湿気が多く、素晴らしい夏のリゾート地です。一方、冬に雪が降って川が凍ると、康渓は白い楽園に変わり、そこでスケート、釣り、そり遊びを楽しむことができます。
康渓草原は平坦で広大で、植物や動物の資源が豊富です。訪れるのに最適な時期は春と夏、特に6月から9月です。その期間中、緑の芝生のカーペットには、コゴン、クローバー、野生の菊、タンポポなどの色とりどりの花が点在します。牛や羊の群れが牧草地をさまよっています。歩き回っている人もいれば、横になって昼寝をしている人もいます。川岸には、シルバーカモメ、野生のアヒル、ハイイロヅル、白鳥、ウサギ、キツネ、ハタネズミが自由に走っています。白いモンゴルのパオが点在していて、さらに魅力が増しています。
康西草原には中国最大の国営競馬場があります。中には素晴らしい競馬場、プロ馬術クラブ、狩猟場、ジープレースクラブがあります。康西草原では、日中に乗馬が観光客にとって最も興味深いアクティビティであるに違いありません。紺碧の空の下で、馬に乗って広い草原を駆け抜けたり、柔らかなそよ風に吹かれて頬を撫でたり、草原をゆっくり歩きながら夕日の景色を眺めたりできます。まだ馬に乗れなくても、プロのコーチが根気よく教えてくれるのでご安心ください。

万里の長城は古くからの軍事防衛プロジェクトであり、中国の象徴であり誇りです。
北京から万里の長城を訪れるのに便利です。北京市周辺には万里の長城には多くの区間があります。万里の長城は、北京市に近く、高速道路で都市部とつながっていることもあり、万里の長城の中で最も訪問者の多い区間です。
この城壁の区間は、再建後（1957年に）初めて観光客に開放された区間です。八達嶺長城は、万里の長城が本来の姿をそのまま見せており、あまり新しくは見えません。これが、ほとんどの旅行者が八達嶺長城を選ぶもう一つの理由です。
八達嶺長城の近くには、万里の長城博物館と万里の長城国立劇場があります。この劇場では、万里の長城の全景を見ることができます。
