The spot where Ruby Leni now stands was originally home to another hotel. Stardom beckoned though, and in 1910 the Dusseldorfer Operettenhaus set their stage on the site. In 1951, the Dusseldorfer Schauspielhaus moved in, quickly making its name as one of Europe’s leading theatres. In fact, Leni takes her name from Helena in Gustav Gründgens’ ground-breaking production of Goethe’s Faust which premiered at the Schauspielhaus in the 1950s, before becoming a movie classic. Recalling her time in the limelight, we’ve set the scene with antique props and costumes, along with sweeping lines, plush fabrics and carefully chosen vintage pieces. The bar menu, meanwhile, is thoroughly modern, from the tasty breakfast and barista coffee to eclectic cocktails and Italian-inspired snacks. On warm evenings, head to the terrace to watch the sun go down and the world go by. Leni’s rooms all reflect our Lean Luxury style, with a big, comfy bed, a rainfall shower and soft, fluffy towels, while a dressing room mirror, scenery features and a Marshall amp all add a backstage buzz.
