The Alte Oper (Old Opera House) is a major concert hall and one Frankfurt’s landmarks. Evening after evening the mahogany paneled Grosser Saal (2450 seats), famed for its excellent acoustics, and the Mozart Saal (720 seats) host a broad spectrum of events featuring international ensembles and soloists. These include symphony and chamber concerts, song recitals, classical and contemporary music, jazz, rock and pop events, light entertainment, cabaret and - in both summer and winter - en suite events with dancing, musicals and children's programmes.

The spectacular garden was opened to the public in 1871 and features 50 acres (20 hectares) of flora from rain forest and mangrove, to savannah and thorn forest vegetation. During the summer months, families can rent rowboats on the pond, tour the post-war reconstructed greenhouses, stop and smell the roses in the rose garden, and on warm summer evenings enjoy some live music or dancing. During the Rose and Light Festival, the gardens are transformed into a wonderland of lanterns and candles, which complement a variety of music and dance shows. The grand finale is a spectacular fireworks display. There's plenty to keep the little ones occupied too, with a programme including magicians, clowns and pony rides. Address Information

Römer - City Hall This former patrician villa with its three-gabled roof has served as Frankfurt's city hall since 1405. It continues to be the seat of the city's Lord Mayor to this day. Description The city's first town hall was soon too small to accommodate the needs of this flourishing city. It was torn down in 1415 prior to commencement of construction on the cathedral tower. The city council was initially accorded the right to build a new town hall in 1329. Finally, in 1405, the council decided to buy two existing houses instead. These two houses, named "Römer" and "Goldener Schwan", have served as the home of Frankfurt's town hall ever since. Large halls were constructed on the ground level and made available for lease during trade fairs. The Kaisersaal, or "Emperor's Hall", was built around 1612. The town hall complex formerly comprised 13 buildings. There are equally many hypotheses as regards to the origin of the name. One of them states that the merchant who lived there until the building was purchased by the city transacted the majority of his business with Italy, and in particular, Rome.

Römerberg The historical old town centre, including its splendid half-timbered houses, was rebuilt according to the original plans in 1986. Description It now represents a classic example of the traditional half-timbered architectural style of times gone by. Every single house bears its own name. In the 17th century, the corner house, named "Grosser Engel", became the home of Frankfurt's first bank.
