son of Odysseus and the sorceress Circe. Under the rule of Rome the city became the favorite seat of summer residences of emperors, senators and writers and
Among the most famous villas, we remember that of Silla, Lucullus, Tiberius and Cicero, who wrote here his Tusculanae Disputationes. The tour route
traces the ancient basolate streets and winds along the remains of the buildings of the forum, until you reach one of the oldest amphitheaters in Lazio built
in the first half of the 1st century BC, which could accommodate up to 2,000 spectators. Other areas of archaeological interest are the great sanctuary
extra-urban, the baths found at the entrance of the Park, the fortress with the medieval remains of the Palazzo dei Conti di Tuscolo and the Basilica dedicated to the SS

"Extraterritorial zone under the government of Vatican City. The area where the villas and gardens are located, in particular the Gardens of Villa
Barberini, is the ancient seat of one of the most sumptuous Roman villas, the Albanum Domitiani, built at the behest of Emperor Domitian
(81-96 AD) and intended for private country residence.
Following the disintegration of the Papal States in 1870, these wonderful places were abandoned for over sixty years and
from 1932 the Palace and the Pontifical Villas became again the usual and privileged summer residence of the popes.
