織物の貿易は、1313年にはすでにハッセルト市の柱の1つでした。1383年、織物職人が故郷の政治的動揺によりルーヴェンからハッセルトに移住したとき、繊維産業はさらに重要になりました。当時、ハッセルトは布の街として有名でした。その理由の1つは、大量の羊毛が購入されたケンペン地区の近くだったことです。ハッセルトの布は、その優れた品質ときれいな仕上がりで賞賛されました。リエージュ、ナミュール、アントワープ、アムステルダム、ゴルクム、ケルン、フランクフルト、リューベックで販売されました。布産業はハッセルトにとって経済的および社会的に非常に重要でした。15世紀には、人口の5分の1が布産業で働いて毎日パンを稼いでいました。1536年には、この都市には約200人の布織りの達人がいました。それでも、「laeckenmeikers」、マスターウィーバー、ウィーバーボーイの職業は、メンバーの数と重要性において他のすべての職業を上回っていました。

This new way of discovering a city via a walking tour with various challenges is a great way to learn about its history and discover its layout.

Each Tourist Scavenger Hunt is around 40 steps, 2-3 hours in duration on a 3-4km circuit which brings you back to the start.
