Phuket is fortunate to be in the centre of one of the world's best diving areas. Prospects at the local beaches are limited, however short daytrips can bring you to some spectacular sites, most of them reachable by boat in under an hour.
Diving in Phuket and live boards in Thailand, the Andaman Sea offers dive sites considered to be among the top ten scuba destinations in the world. It boasts crystal clear water, spectacular reefs and rock formations, plus a colourful selection of marine life.

Over the years, the Golf Clubs in Phuket have attracted world ranking tournaments such as the Johnnie Walker Classic and a number of prestigious awards. World-class golfing at the PGA championship blue Canyon Country Club (45 minutes drive from The Surin). Other leading gold course is the newer Red Mountain (30 minutes away) at Loch Palm Country Club. Wat Chalong is officially called 'Wat Chaitararam' by royal decree but not many people use that name. Located in the northern part of Tambol Chalong ('tambol' means sub-district in Thai) on Chao Fa West Rd, the wat is close to many local attractions. The name 'Chalong' means 'festival' in Thai - many years ago the area was named 'Chalang' after locals, fearing Burmese invaders, had moved from Thalang district. However, the Thai government pointed out that no such word existed in the Thai language and ordered local officials to change the name.
