1997年、ゴールデン・ボフ・シアターのメンバーは驚くべき発見をしました。台北の中心部の奥深くに、すべての訪問者が立ち入り禁止になっていたところに、廃工場が立っていました。そのグループは工場を都市の中の都市、つまり自然がコンクリートで10年近く熟成させた場所だと説明しました... そして彼らは興味をそそられました。 若い俳優たちは当時それを知らなかったが、台湾で最も古く、最も保存状態の良い建造物の一つに出くわしたのだ。1914年に建設されたこの工場は、1920年代を通じて台湾最大のワイン生産者の1つでしたが、長い間使われていませんでした。 厚かましいグループは工場の一部を「修復」し、廃墟となったホールで演劇を上演し始めました。彼らの実験的なパフォーマンスと興味をそそる会場の選択は、すぐに地域社会の注目を集めました... 残念ながら地元の警察にも注目され、グループはすぐに不法侵入の罪に問われました。しかし、この過度に熱狂的なこのささいな行為は、ほんの始まりに過ぎませんでした。 地元のアーティストたちは、オープンスペース、高い天井、豊富な自然光に惹かれました。間もなく、台北各地から集まった芸術や文学の巨人たちは、この工場をインスピレーションあふれる作業スペースとして利用し始め、パフォーマンスを行い、建物自体に独特の足跡を残しました。 この独特な環境についての噂はさらに広まり、1999年に工場を本格的なアートセンターに修復する目的で、非営利NGOである台湾文化環境改革協会が設立されました。工場は華山クリエイティブパークと改名され、2005年にクリエイティブパークの再建が正式に開始されました。 2007年、台湾文化創意開発有限公司株式会社は公園の改修と運営の責任を引き受け、公園の名前を華山1914に変更しました。それ以来、有機的に創造的な環境が広がっています。華山1914は現在、台北の主要なクリエイティブアートセンターであり、台湾の最も重要な文化活動の開催地でもあります。例としては、シンプルライフミュージックフェスティバルやBiBo学生デザインエキスポなどがあります。今日、華山1914は台湾のクリエイティブの中心地であるだけでなく、ユニークな建築の歴史への架け橋にもなっています。
