History of the brewery When we started a private beer tasting club in late 2000, no one would have dreamed that 15 years later we would have a super brewery at our disposal. Back then, the beer tasting club was still called "the Order of the Wet Sparrow" with the logo being two sparrows with a beer in their Nest. While tasting, the interest in everything to do with beer grew, we also tasted less tasty beers from time to time but after a while a "we might be able to do that better ourselves" feeling developed.

In the 14th century, the beguinage was located at the former park surrounding the castle. At its peak in 1675, the beguinage had 370 beguines. Then followed several low points with fire disasters, looting, the plague and other plagues. The beautiful baroque beguinage church from 1666 - 1667, the Chapel of the Holy Face and the restored Calvary Chapel fortunately remained unscathed. Enjoy, and let the world stand still for a moment.

At the Museum of Playing Cards you will learn that in addition to innocent entertainment, they were also used for centuries for propaganda, satire, art, education, divination and advertising. The museum has the most important collection of playing cards from Turnhout and the historical Netherlands. The oldest original pieces date from the early 16th century, but the emphasis is on the industrial period (18th century to the present). This is the period in which the Turnhout mapmakers created a furor. Because most of their card games were destined for export, the whole world is immediately present in the museum.
