Set at the foot of the Slieve Aughty Mountains, the walled gardens of Woodville House have been carefully restored to their former glory. The gardens supplied the house with fruit, vegetables and flowers throughout the year and features colourful herbaceous borders, established fruit trees and serene fountain. There is also a fascinating museum outlining Lady Augusta Gregory’s connection to Woodville House.

Loughrea, 1.7km, 3 minute drive/10 minute walk Described as the jewel in the crown of the Celtic Revival, the magnificent St. Brendan’s Cathedral is ornately decorated and features an unrivalled collection of Irish stained glass. Next door is the Clonfert Dioceasan Museum which contains a range of fascinating items including the oldest surviving carved wooden statue in Ireland (c 1180 AD), the 500 year old Matheus Macraith Chalice, spectacular vestments and items from the penal times. 30 minute audio tours of the cathedral are available from the museum.
