Times Square, the most bustling square of New York is known for its many Broadway theatres, cinemas and supersigns. It is one of those places that make New York a city that never sleeps
Designed by architect William Burnet Tuthill and built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891, it is one of the most prestigious venues in the world for classical music and popular music. Carnegie Hall has its own artistic programming, development, and marketing departments, and presents about 250 performances each season. It is also rented out to performing groups. The hall has not had a resident company since 1962, when the New York Philharmonic moved to Lincoln Center's Philharmonic Hall (renamed Avery Fisher Hall in 1973).
The 11-block strip of Manhattan from 53rd to 42nd streets between 6th and 8th Avenues is called the Great White Way, home to over 40 theaters.
Theatres included:
Ambassador Theater, American Airlines Theater, Belasco Theater, Booth Theater, Broadhurst Theater, Broadway Theater, Brooks Atkinson Theatre, Circle in the Square, Cort Theater, Ethel Barrymore Theater, Eugene Oeill Theater, Hilton Theatre, Gershwin Theatre, Helen Hayes Theater, Imperial Theater, John Golden Theater, Longacre Theatre, Lunt-Fontanne Theater, Lyceum Theatre, Majestic Theater, Marquis Theatre, Al Hirschfeld Theater, Minskoff Theater, Music Box Theater, Nederlander Theater, Neil Simon Theater, New Amsterdam Theater, New World Stages, Palace Theater, Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, Richard Rodgers Theater, Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, Sam S. Shubert Theater, St. James Theater, Studio 54, August Wilson Theater, Vivian Beaumont Theater, Walter Kerr Theater, Cadillac Winter Garden Theater.
The Javits Center is host to many leading conventions, trade shows, consumer shows and special events. There is no better world stage than the Javits Center on which to produce, exhibit or attend an event. Whatever brings you here, we are committed to making your experience truly rewarding. And as a destination city, nothing quite compares to New York City as the finance, entertainment, publishing and fashion capital of the world.
The Empire State Building is one of the most famous skyscrapers in the world, built in just 18 months during the Great Depression, it was the world's tallest building from 1931-1972. The observation tower at the top of the Empire State Building was originally intended to be a dock for mooring airships. However, after several futile attempts at mooring a zeppelin in the strong winds present at 1250 feet, the idea was scrapped. The 86th floor observatory is visited by 3.5 milllion people every year.
Grand Central Terminal (GCT) — sometimes mistakenly called Grand Central Station or shortened to simply Grand Central — is a terminal station at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Built by and named for the New York Central Railroad in the heyday of American long-distance passenger trains, it is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms:[3] 44, with 67 tracks along them. They are on two levels, both below ground, with 41 tracks on the upper level and 26 on the lower, though the total number of tracks along platforms and in rail yards exceeds 100. When the Long Island Rail Road's new station, below the existing levels, opens (see East Side Access), Grand Central will offer a total of 75 tracks and 48 platforms. The terminal covers an area of 48 acres (19 ha).
The terminal serves commuters traveling on the Metro-North Railroad to Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties in New York State, and Fairfield and New Haven counties in Connecticut.
Central Park, designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, is home to a ton of attractions spread throughout its 843 acres of landscape. The landmarks nestled in the park are diverse; visitors can find everything from sprawling waters and green meadows to stunning bridges and performance centers, plus educational facilities, gardens and even classical architecture.
There is a story behind every attraction in the park that is loaded with fascinating history. Belvedere Castle is a fully functional weather station, the Great Lawn hosted a Papal Mass in 1995, the Blockhouse is an old fort from the War of 1812 located at the northern end of the park, and the Continental Army even walked through McGown's Pass on the Upper East Side in 1783 the during the American Revolution. Central Park also boasts numerous statues of iconic figures, including Balto, Alice and Wonderland and even William Shakespeare; fountains and the oldest public monument in North America: The Obelisk.
For animal-lovers, Central Park is home to the world famous Central Park Zoo and Wildlife Center and the Children's Zoo. At 6.5 acres, the zoo is only a mere .77% of the park's acreage, but it manages to hold over 1,400 animals of more than 130 species in its three temperature zones: tropic, garden and polar.
Of course, above all things, Central Park is a park, so there are plenty of attractions that focus on physical activities and other fun pastimes. Two skating rinks, a carousel, a public swimming pool, baseball fields, tennis courts and other sport attractions are scattered throughout the park.
And finally, the main highlight of Central Park is not an "attraction" in the normal sense of the word. It is the picturesque beauty of the natural green landscape and pastoral escape that Central Park provides to one of the busiest cities in the world. There is nothing better than wandering through the paths, exploring the rustic spaces and basking in the nature.
Lincoln Center is the world’s leading performing arts center. Located on 16.3 acres in New York City, the Lincoln Center complex is comprised of 12 Resident Organizations, and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is one of those 12.
Each organization has its own administration and its own board of directors. Together, these twelve institutions present thousands of performances, educational programs, tours and other events each year in 26 separate performance venues on the Lincoln Center campus.
Restaurant Row is the popular nickname for a section of 46th Street in New York City, New York. Located in Midtown Manhattan between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, the name is derived from the numerous small restaurants that line the street. The street itself has a small neighborhood feel despite its proximity to Times Square and the Broadway theatres.
Rockefeller Center is an art deco marvel consisting of 19 commercial buildings covering 11 acres in midtown Manhattan from 49th to 52nd Streets, Fifth to Seventh Avenues. Named after the multi-millionaire, John D. Rockefeller, who leased the space from Columbia University in 1928.
Completed in 1934, 30 Rockefeller Plaza became the RCA headquarters. General Electric's initials now brighten the rooftop of the home of NBC. 30 Rockefeller Plaza is the most public of the buildings and two of the most popular tourist attractions reside here.
The NBC Studio Tour, lets you see where popular shows like Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Conan O'Brien and NBC News are taped.
