Built at the same time as the Waldorf Astoria, the Rockefeller Center complex reflects art deco styling throughout. A true destination by itself, a block away from the Waldorf Astoria, with 40 places to dine and over 100 fabulous stores including FDNY Fire Zone, Lego, Metropolitan Museum of Art store, Nintendo World, NBC Experience Store and the Yankees Clubhouse. Various tours are offered year round, such as the Rockefeller historic, NBC Studio, and Radio City Music Hall tour. This is the area in Midtown Manhattan where most Broadway theatres are located, as well as many other theaters, movie theaters and restaurants including Restaurant Row to enjoy cuisine from all over the world. In the middle of it, Times Square, visited by over 26 million people each year, some to attend the many Broadway shows, some to dine, and all experience the glowing lights and energy of this famed area that includes a new pedestrian area. Central Park was the first landscaped public park in the United States. Inspirited by the public grounds of London and Paris, it provides 843 acres of paths, lakes and open spaces in the heart of New York City. In addition to The Waldorf Astoria (1929-31), one of New York’s “crown jewels” of the Art Deco period, there are nearly 20 significant Art Deco buildings in midtown with striking architecture and design, all in walking distance from the hotel. Rockefeller Center is home to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the International Building, and Radio City Music Hall. On the southwest corner is the boldly patterned Swiss Center. Down Fifth Avenue at W. 40th Street the dramatic American Radiator Building and the Chanin Building. Viewable from the hotel, the Chrysler Building and lobby and General Electric Building on Lexington; along with the Empire State Building, they compose the world’s largest concentration of Art Deco skyscrapers.

The beautiful Beaux-arts building is both a transportation hub and a destination in itself. Atop the station is Campbell Apartment. In the main concourse, the information booth and clock is the place to meet. The illustrated blue-green cathedral ceiling offers a different view of the nighttime sky, with constellations and other heavenly bodies-sometimes highlighted with a periodic zodiac laser show.There is an Apple Store on the west side of the concourse.Below the tracks are levels of shopping and dining-from clothiers to florists to souvenir shops. And often in Vanderbilt Hall are visiting art exhibits and other events. Audio tours are available.
The United Nations celebrated their 60 Years Anniversary in 2012. The agency's first headquarters was actually Room 786 at the Waldorf Astoria; it was there that A. H. Feller, general counsel of the United Nations, checked in on Feb. 19, 1946, with orders to find first a temporary home in New York, then a permanent one. Every year, over 1 million visitors from around the world enter the Visitors Centre of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Guided tours offer an exciting opportunity to discover United Nations Headquarters and include a behind-the-scenes view of the Organization at work, the General Assembly Hall, the Security Council Chamber and explore a variety of exhibits. The complex is also notable for its gardens and outdoor sculptures.
Some of the most iconic churches, cathedrals, and synagogues are a few blocks away from the hotel. Right on Park Avenue, St. Bartholomew’s Church depicts Romanesque/Byzantine design. St Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest decorated gothic-style structure in the US and one of New York’s great institutions. Midtown’s Central Synagogue on Lexington is the oldest synagogue in continuous use in New York City.

Open in 1931, 5 months prior to the Waldorf Astoria, inaugurated as the Waldorf Astoria was, by President Hoover, live from the White House, the Empire State Building is visible from many places in New York City. It was built on the site of the original Waldorf Astoria. There's an indoor/outdoor observation deck on the 86th floor, and another fully enclosed one on the 102nd floor. Also housed in the Empire State Building, NY SKYRIDE offers visitors a virtual tour of New York City. Located in Murray Hill neighborhood, it is next door to the Morgan Library and Museum which collections include a Gutenberg bible and original Mozart and Beethoven manuscripts.
