Magnotta Winery is a proud, Ontario family winery and grape grower steeped in innovative winemaking and local history for 30 years.
We grow grapes from our 180 acres of family-owned and operated vineyards in the heart of the Niagara Peninsula, one of the finest wine regions in the world, to create our award winning, 100% Ontario vintages. For additional grapes, we support the agricultural growth of the province by partnering with local independent grape growers.
From grape to bottle to the table, we are there every step of the way to handcraft our wines. The entire winemaking process – harvesting, crushing, fermentation, vinification and bottling – is managed exclusively by our winemakers and production team at our expansive facilities located in Vaughan and Beamsville.
With over 180 wines to satisfy any budget or occasion including VQA, premium and specialty wines and our world-famous Icewines, we sell directly to the consumer at winery-direct prices through our 13 independent stores in Ontario.
It all started 30 years ago with just two wines and an uphill battle that would last years but our guts and brawn would earn us the hearts of consumers for giving them a better way to buy wine that wasn’t available before. The odds were stacked against us as a young company back in 1990 and many onlookers in the industry likely didn't expect us to still be here years later. Our customers thought otherwise.
The story is now well-known. The road to co-founders Gabe and Rossana Magnotta’s success was paved with adversity, innovation, creativity, good people and great wine. In 1990, they saw a world of opportunity when the LCBO made a last minute announcement that they did not have shelf space available for Magnotta products.
The panic triggered an emergency re-draft of their marketing plans: Sell directly to the public and offer consumers a high-quality, low-cost alternative to the LCBO. An overwhelming response from the public followed. Ten years later, Gabe and Rossana reached a mediated settlement with the LCBO and several of their Icewines entered into LCBO stores soon afterwards. Magnotta and the LCBO now enjoy an expanded relationship with our G. Marquis collection of wines, re-branded Kittling Ridge wines and other select products available at the LCBO.

The Kortright Centre is named after world-renowned outdoorsman, author and conservationist Francis H. Kortright.
Long before the environmental crisis became an issue of global concern, Kortright recognized the urgency and resolved to do something about it. He devoted the latter part of his life, his full attention and his abundant energies to the cause of protecting wild creatures of the fields, forests, waters and skies. In so doing, he created for all Canadians a legacy that will be appreciated by many generations to come.
Since the Kortright Centre opened, it has delivered unique environmental educational experiences to more than two million visitors.
The Kortright Centre offers one of Canada’s largest educational demonstrations of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies. Available activities include:
Participating in an intensive renewable energy workshop.
Taking a stroll on the Innovation Trail to watch the windmill and the wind turbine in action.
Viewing displays of solar shingles, hot water showers and water pumps.
Visiting the Archetype Sustainable Houses.
The 1.6-kilometre Innovation Trail features one of Canada’s largest educational demonstrations of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies. These demonstrations provide the knowledge and inspiration that can help you make informed decisions about technology and lifestyle to reduce your impact on the natural environment.
Demonstrations along the trail include:
Eight kilowatts of grid-connected photovoltaic systems
500 watts of remote photovoltaic systems
Canada’s first roof-mounted grid-connected photovoltaic system

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection stands alone as the only public fine art gallery in the nation that focuses on Canadian art and the Indigenous art of our country, both historical and contemporary. The permanent collection consists of over 6,400 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists who have contributed to the development of Canadian art. The McMichael is also the gallery of record for works on paper from the Inuit community of Cape Dorset, as we are the custodians for the Cape Dorset archive, totaling more than 100,000 artworks.
Built of fieldstone and hand-hewn logs in a modernist design, the McMichael houses thirteen exhibition galleries where floor-to-ceiling windows enable visitors to enjoy views of the densely wooded Humber River Valley. Beyond the galleries are 100 acres of forested land, from a ridgetop ‘wilderness garden,’ planted by the McMichaels to echo the northern forest beloved of the Group of Seven, to the heritage wetlands and waterways.
The McMichael is an Agency of the Government of Ontario.
Golf
In the post-war golf boom of the Roaring Twenties, legendary Golf Course Architect, Stanley Thompson (Banff, Jasper, Cape Breton Highlands, St. George), came up Yonge Street and built Uplands Golf Club in the (then) sleepy town of Thornhill. It was the summer of 1922 when Uplands opened with the first fairway irrigation system in Canada.
Much has changed over the past 99 years. The City has exploded, dozens of other courses popped up along the Don Valley (many also built by Thompson), and Uplands took its place among the exclusive private clubs of Toronto – until the 1980’s, when development gobbled up half of the property and the remaining 9-holes were turned over to the City of Vaughan.
The good news, is that they are some of the best holes, and on the most exciting topography. GolfNorth undertook a 25 year lease on Uplands in 2017, and have been slowly returning the holes to their original glory.
What Uplands offers to the golfing public is a classic Stanley Thompson design, with access to holes which were once the playground of Toronto’s rich and famous, at an extremely reasonable price. It’s truly a piece of golfing history that you can play anytime. Very little has been changed since the master architect left the property in 1922.
Ski
With a vertical drop of some 100 feet and slopes of varying difficulty averaging 1000 feet in length, Uplands is the perfect environment to learn skiing for beginners of all ages— especially for children. Our instructors are all certified and use CSIA and CASI teaching methods that effectively develop skill and confidence in the skiers and snowboarders of all ages.
