De luchthaven Leipzig/Halle ligt tussen de steden Leipzig en Halle op het grondgebied van de stad Schkeuditz in Saksen in de agglomeratie Leipzig-Halle. De luchthaven werd op 18 april 1927 in gebruik genomen. De luchthaven is van internationaal belang, met name op het gebied van luchtvrachtverkeer. Wat het aantal passagiers betreft, stond de luchthaven in 2020 op de 13e plaats in Duitsland. [3] In de vrachtsector stond ze op de tweede plaats in Duitsland na Frankfurt en op de vierde plaats in Europa in 2021. [4] In 2020 stond ze wereldwijd op de 20e plaats. [5] De luchthaven is de thuisbasis van de vrachtluchtvaartmaatschappijen Aerologic en de DHL Hub Leipzig, samen met European Air Transport Leipzig.
