A contemporary take on Empordà cuisine. This is the essence of Castell Peralada Restaurant. After years of success at El Bulli and Mas Pau, chef Xavier Sagristà and maître d’ and sommelier Toni Gerez have designed a creative gourmet menu which reinterprets the culinary tradition in a creative way with avant-garde dishes. It is an upscale gourmet restaurant with a main dining room, two private dining rooms in the towers of the Castle and a terrace facing the lake with stunning views of the garden. Castell Peralada Restaurant was awarded a much-coveted first Michelin star on November 22, 2017, representing both a challenge and a responsibility for Xavier Sagristà and his entire team.

The Museums of Peralada
Next to the castle is the historical-cultural site that houses the museum, the library and the art collections. In the 14th-century Carme convent, you can find the cloister and the Gothic church where religious ceremonies are held, along with small concerts and recitals in the summer. The Library of the Castle contains more than 100,000 volumes and 1001 different versions of Don Quixote. Every year, it organizes a themed exhibition and in 2017 it was dedicated to the photo archive of the Palau de Peralada, a collection on the history of the pioneers of photography from Empordà. It also hosts lectures and symposia. The glass and ceramic museum and the wine museum harbor the large private collections started by Miquel Mateu.

Following the winemaking tradition started by the Carmelite priests in the 14th century, today Peralada crafts extremely prestigious wines, taking advantage of the heterogeneity of its soils and the exceptional climate of the Empordà. It includes wine-related experiences in unique sites, such as the vineyards of Malaveïna, one of Perelada’s five estates in the Empordà, and a spectacular room with 5,000 barrels and the historical cave where wine has been made since the Middle Ages, as well as a meticulous selection of guided tastings of wines and sparkling wines from Perelada and the most prestigious brands from regions like Australia, California and Champagne, which are distributed in Spain by Perelada Comercial.

The Castell de Peralada International Music Festival is held in July and August in the wonderful outdoor auditorium, while the Carme cloister and church, with their fantastic acous- tics, are used to host smaller shows. Every summer, great operas, concerts and recitals are featured on the stage, with prestigious soloists, great ballets put on by the best international dance companies and jazz and pop concerts. They are complemented by exhibitions, dramatic readings, children’s shows, theatre… in the summer, we live for entertainment. Dovetailing with the festival, the castle gardens are turned into a wonderful outdoor buffet: La Parrilla del Castell.
