Landscape of Light: World Heritage Site by UNESCO

Historical landmark
5 km away
Located at the urban heart of Madrid, this 190 hectares area –75% of which is green space– brings together nature, culture and science in an urban environment. In fact, as early as the 16th century, Madrid became the first European capital with a large tree-lined avenue which was home to various institutions such as the Natural History Cabinet, the Royal Botanical Garden and the Royal Observatory of Madrid, and created an urban model ahead of its time that spread to other cities in Spain and Latin America. Now it also houses some of the most well known fountains and emblematic buildings in the city as well as the prestigous El Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums, among others.

Paseo de la Castellana

Business district
1 km away
This part of the avenue is a reflection of modern Madrid. Here we find well known business Colon statuecenters, skyscrapers, malls, restaurants. It is the Madrid of the XXI century. Until 1960, Madrid more or less ended at Plaza de Castilla. The area between the Bernabeu football stadium and the Plaza de Castilla was called Corea due to the many Americans of the American military base in Torrejon that lived there. In the 1970´s the Palacio de Congresos was built, the Corte Ingles Mall and the business center AZCA. That was the moment everything changed. What until then had been considered a suburb became the second center of the city. Big skyscrapers were built like the Torre Picasso and the Torre Europa, and in a few year all these quiet streets were full of bustling activity.

The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, a symbol forever linked to the history of football, takes on an even more special meaning this season. An overwhelming sense of excitement and optimism has invaded its stands. The big stars have returned, as has the greatest show on earth. Unsurpassable magic moments loom, like the final of the UEFA Champions League.
