Se cobrará un impuesto turístico en Mallorca y las islas vecinas de Menorca, Ibiza y Formentera, a partir del 1 de julio de 2016. Este impuesto sirve para la protección del medio ambiente y el paisaje, el mantenimiento del patrimonio histórico y cultural de las islas y la inversión en infraestructura turística. El importe se basa en el tipo de alojamiento, unos 1,50€ para estancias en temporada alta (del 1 de mayo al 31 de octubre). Las estancias fuera de las horas punta (del 1 de noviembre al 30 de abril), así como a partir del noveno día de estancia, cuestan un 50% menos. Los niños menores de 16 años están exentos. El impuesto figurará en la factura del hotel a la llegada o a la salida y se transferirá al Servicio de Impuestos.
