Der Krater entstand vor über 10.000 Jahren, als der schmelzende Schnee auf den Wasatch Mountains tief in die Erde sickerte. Zwei Meilen unter der Oberfläche erhitzte das Erdinnere das Wasser. Als es nach oben sickerte, nahm es Mineralien auf, die sich dann an der Oberfläche ablagerten und schließlich die vulkanförmige Kalksteinablagerung bildeten.
Das Loch an der Spitze der Kuppel lässt Sonnenlicht und frische Luft herein, während das Innere das ganze Jahr über durch das Mineralwasser erwärmt wird, das ganze Jahr über in einem konstanten Bereich von 96 Grad Fahrenheit liegt.
