The Sforzesco Castle was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the remains of a 14th-century fortification. Later renovated and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. The Royal Palace of Milan was the seat of government of the Italian city of Milan for many centuries. Today it serves as a cultural centre and home to expositions and exhibitions. The palace is located to the right of the facade of the Duomo cathedral opposite the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The façade of the building follows the style of the ancient courtyard, forming a recess in respect to Piazza del Duomo, known as the Piazzetta Reale.

Milan Cathedral or the Duomo, is the Gothic cathedral church of Milan, dedicated to St Mary of the Nativity. The Duomo was completed after six centuries of workmanship, featuring a number of contrasting styles, and, nowadays, is the largest church in Italy (after St. Peter's Basilica is in the State of Vatican City) and the third largest in the world. It can be considered as the symbol of the city, together with the Madoninna statue, on the dyre of the Duomo, at the height of 110m height. Given Milan's notoriously damp and foggy climate, the Milanese consider it a fair-weather day when the Madonnina is visible from a distance, as it is so often covered by mist.

Santa Maria delle Grazie is a church and Dominican convent in Milan, included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites list. The Duke of Milan Francesco I Sforza ordered its construction in 1467 and when it was completed by the end of the century it became the Sforza family official burial site. The church contains the mural of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, which is in the refectory of the convent and is nowadays one of the world's most famous paintings.

Pinacoteca di Brera, founded in 1809 by Napoleon I, is one of Italy’s largest art galleries and is housed in the Palazzo di Brera, an 18th-century Neoclassical structure that was originally built, from plans by Francesco Maria Ricchino, as a Jesuit college. Its original collection was that of Milan’s Academy of Fine Arts, though its most important works were acquired later, featuring Italian paintings from the Quattrocento (15th century) to the Rococo period (18th century).
