A skillfully laid-out boulevard in South Mumbai. It is actually an upturned ‘C’-shaped six lane concrete road, which lengthens to 3 km along the coastline – a natural bay. This avenue connects Nariman Point with Malabar Hills. At night it appears like a necklace with street lights resembling a string of pearls, it is also known as Queen’s Necklace.

Gateway of India

Historical Landmark
8 km away
At Apollo Bunder in South Mumbai, Gateway of India was once the first structure visible to visitors who arrived in Mumbai by sea. Designed by architect George Wittet in the style of 16th century Gujarat architecture, the Gateway of India has been built in yellow basalt stone from quarries located north of Mumbai. This architectural style borrowed elements from India’s Mughal style and Britain’s Gothic style. Construction started in 1911 and was completed in 1924. King George and Queen Mary entered Mumbai through the Gateway of India. Today, it is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city and a bustling tourist spot – a must-see if you’re in Mumbai, as much for the Gateway itself as for its convivial atmosphere.

Mahalakshmi Race Course

Recreation
3 km away
In a stretch of South Mumbai’s upscale Mahalaxmi area lies the Mahalaxmi Race Course. Created from the erstwhile marshy flatlands that went by the name of Mahalaxmi Flats about 100 years ago, this race course is the venue for a high point in Mumbai’s social calendar once every year, during the renowned Indian Derby. Held annually on the first Sunday of February, it is patronised by the most prominent members of Mumbai’s high society. The horse racing season here starts in mid November and ends in the last week of April. It is open to public in the mornings and evening during specific hours. You’re likely to find Mumbaikars exercising, walking, jogging and practicing yoga and Tai-Chi in the garden situated within the race-track during these hours.
