Is the city’s most important museum of painting and sculpture. Housed in a former convent which was renovated in the seventeenth century, the building is a jewel of mannerist style. In its 14 rooms, you can admire paintings ranging from the fifteenth century to Seville’s twentieth century genre painting. Of particular note are the Seville Baroque rooms, with works by Murillo, Valdés Leal and Zurbarán.

In 1400 the La Cartuja Monastery (Monasterio de la Cartuja) in honour of Santa María de las Cuevas was founded. After 1835, the building lost its religious character and was sold to the English industrialist Charles Pickman who established a poery and porcelain factory. During Expo 92, it was used as the Royal Pavilion. It currently houses the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, contemporary art museum.
