Het kasteel van Nagoya werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog verwoest, maar de kasteeltoren werd herbouwd in 1959. Het binnenpaleis van de citadel werd in 2018 heropend voor het publiek na de voltooiing van de restauratiewerkzaamheden die in 2009 begonnen. De reconstructie is trouw aan de originele structuur, waaronder opvallende schuifdeurschilderingen die zijn nagemaakt door kunstenaars van de Kano-school.
