Ataköy Baruthanesi, bekend als Baruthane-i Amire, werd in 1700 in gebruik genomen als de vijfde en tevens de grootste en modernste buskruitfabriek in het Ottomaanse Istanbul. De faciliteit werd tijdens de Selim de 3e periode gerenoveerd en uitgebreid met toevoegingen zoals het Hünkar Mansion. Baruthaan, dat tijdens de periode van de Republiek werd overgedragen aan de Military Factories Administration, werd later in 1955 aan de Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation gegeven. Twee jaar na de overdracht begonnen de Ataköy-blokken rond de campus te stijgen en in 1972 werd Baruthane gebruikt voor de exploitatie van Ataköy Touristic Facilities, in overeenstemming met de veranderende behoeften van de regio.
