Enkele kenmerken van het Museum voor Schone Kunsten die zich in het begin manifesteerden, zijn zelfs vandaag nog steeds herkenbaar: kenmerken zoals de nauwe banden van het museum met openbare instellingen die samenvielen met het museum in de wens om van Bilbao een cultureel referentiepunt te maken. De belangrijke donaties en erfenissen van zowel instellingen als particulieren die het museum in de eerste jaren van zijn leven ontving, bepaalden de toekomstige lijnen waarlangs de collectie zou groeien. Een ander kenmerk van het museum is de wens om gelijktijdig te zijn, wat in het begin een antwoord was op de zorgen van de lokale artistieke gemeenschap. Deze inzet voor tijdgenoot kwam zo'n tien jaar later tot stand toen een nieuw museum gewijd aan hedendaagse en moderne kunst werd opgericht. Zo opende het Museum of Modern Art, dat oorspronkelijk in Raadsgebouwen was gevestigd, in 1924 zijn eigen deuren. De eerste directeur was schilder Aurelio Arteta.

Het Euskalduna Conference Centre is een uniek gebouw en een van de vlaggenschepen van het nieuwe, 21e-eeuwse Bilbao. Euskalduna Jauregia — Palacio Euskalduna. S.A. is een overheidsbedrijf dat eigendom is van de Provinciale Raad van Bizkaia. Het gebouw is ontworpen door architecten Federico Soriano en Dolores Palacios om te lijken op een schip in aanbouw, omdat het op de site staat die voorheen werd bewoond door de scheepswerf Euskalduna. Het won de Enric Miralles prijs voor architectuur op de 6e Spaanse Architectuurbiënnale in 2001. Dit multifunctionele complex van 58.200 m² ligt in het hart van de stad Bilbao, dicht bij de internationale luchthaven. Het organiseert een breed scala aan economische, zakelijke, academische, politieke, institutionele, sociale en culturele evenementen. Het is de thuisbasis van het operaseizoen van de stad, georganiseerd door ABAO (Friends of the Opera of Bilbao), een van de meest gerenommeerde in Spanje en inderdaad Europa. Het is ook de thuisbasis van het Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS), dat werd opgericht in 1920 en sinds 1922 optreedt. Het gebouw bevat een scala aan locaties voor vergaderingen en amusementsdoeleinden (een auditorium, congreszalen, vergaderzalen, kantoren, foyers en een prachtige tentoonstellingsruimte) samen met serviceruimtes met opslagruimte, vestiaires, kleedkamers, repetitieruimtes, enz.
