Het bevat een exemplaar van elk boek dat in Spanje is gepubliceerd, evenals een waardevolle verzameling incunabelen, manuscripten, prenten, tekeningen, foto's, kaarten, geluidsopnamen, partituren, enz. In de tentoonstellingszalen, die open zijn voor het publiek, kunnen de collecties, de werking en de geschiedenis van de Nationale Bibliotheek worden bekeken.

Het Parque de Buen Retiro is het populairste park in Madrid. Het is gedeeltelijk ingericht in een formele Franse stijl, terwijl andere delen natuurlijker zijn.
