De Sagrada Família-basiliek, gelegen in Barcelona, is een van de meest iconische kerken ter wereld en het beroemdste werk van architect Antoni Gaudí. De bouw begon in 1882 als een particulier initiatief en wordt sindsdien gefinancierd door donaties en de verkoop van bezoekerskaarten.
Gaudí nam het project in 1883 over en transformeerde het volledig, waarbij hij de basiliek opvatte als een diep religieus en symbolisch werk geïnspireerd door de natuur, geometrie en christelijk geloof. De laatste jaren van zijn leven wijdde hij bijna volledig aan de Sagrada Família. Na zijn dood in 1926, na een tramongeluk, werd het project voortgezet op basis van zijn plannen, modellen en geschriften.
De bouw werd verschillende keren onderbroken, met name tijdens de Spaanse Burgeroorlog, toen een deel van het originele materiaal werd vernietigd. Desondanks hebben opeenvolgende generaties architecten het werk voortgezet, met respect voor Gaudí's visie en tegelijkertijd traditioneel vakmanschap gecombineerd met moderne technologie.
De basiliek staat bekend om haar drie gevels — geboorte, passie en glorie — die elk een belangrijk moment in het leven van Jezus Christus vertegenwoordigen, en om zijn torens, die na voltooiing in totaal 18 zullen zijn. In 2010 werd de kerk ingewijd door paus Benedictus XVI en uitgeroepen tot kleine basiliek. Hoewel nog in aanbouw, is de Sagrada Família een universeel symbool geworden van Barcelona en van Gaudí's genialiteit.
