The Basement is een veelzijdige, unieke en sfeervolle ruimte in The Argus Lofts in de North Laines in Brighton. De ruimte is ideaal voor het bedenken, produceren en presenteren van experimenteel theater, Live Art en performance. Het is ook de perfecte achtergrond voor tentoonstellingen die op zoek zijn naar het tegenovergestelde van een galerieruimte met witte muren. De ondergrondse locatie maakt het ideaal voor gerichte seminars, workshops en vergaderingen, met een verschil. Met zichtbaar metselwerk en ijzeren balken is The Basement een blank canvas met een stoere industriële uitstraling. Het werd in september 2003 opgericht via een Percentage for Art-regeling van de gemeenteraad van Brighton & Hove en de ontwikkelaar van The Argus Lofts, en werd later gerenoveerd en uitgebreid in het voorjaar van 2007.
