Newbattle Abbey was oorspronkelijk een middeleeuws cisterciënzerklooster en heeft een 900-jarige geschiedenis van het verwelkomen van koninklijke en bevoorrechte gasten. Het sierlijke fresco-plafond van de grote Drawing Room is een adembenemend voorbeeld van het werk van de architect Thomas Bonnar uit Edinburgh. De Mezzanine, bekleed met originele kunstwerken, is een inspirerende setting voor borrelrecepties en kan worden gecombineerd met verschillende andere kamers voor grotere aantallen. Fascinerende geschiedenis De toekomst van Schotland werd gevormd in de abdij toen hier de Declaration of Abroath werd opgesteld. Elke kamer bevat een verhaal: het lettertype in de kapel waarvan wordt aangenomen dat het is gebruikt om Mary Queen of Scots te dopen; de geheime trap; en de gewelfde crypte.
