De Venetiaanse toren is een van de meest interessante en mooiste historische verdedigingswerken in Durrës. Het is een integraal onderdeel van het Byzantijnse fort Durrës, uitgeroepen tot cultureel monument van de eerste categorie. Het werd ooit beschouwd als een van de meest formidabele verdedigingswerken langs de westkust van de Adriatische Zee. Het huidige fort vindt zijn oorsprong in de eerste bouwwerkzaamheden van de Byzantijnse keizer Anastasius I (491-518), een inwoner van Durrës (het oude Dyrrhachium). Gebouwd bovenop de overblijfselen van de Byzantijnse toren rond de vijftiende eeuw, werd de Venetiaanse toren versterkt met kanonnen om de stad tegen de zee te beschermen. Het was speciaal ontworpen om te worden bewapend met artillerie en diende als een cruciaal observatiepunt voor het monitoren van de omgeving. In 2022-2023 werd de Venetiaanse toren gerenoveerd en omgevormd tot het eerste Albanese erfgoedinterpretatiecentrum en biedt bezoekers nu de kans om historische gebeurtenissen en plaatsen te verkennen met behulp van ultramoderne digitale en multimediatools. Deze omvatten VR-headsets, audiogidsen, dome-multimediaprojecties en andere activiteiten, die entertainment combineren met een meer diepgaande kijk op de eeuwenoude geschiedenis van de stad.

Dit is het grootste en belangrijkste amfitheater op de Balkan, gebouwd aan het begin van de 1e eeuw na Christus. Het bevat opmerkelijke functionele en structurele architectonische kenmerken, uniek in Albanië. Systematische opgravingen begonnen in 1966 en tot op heden is de helft van het monument opgegraven. Het amfitheater bevindt zich in het centrum van de stad; de westelijke grot is ingebouwd in de heuvel, terwijl de andere kant oprijst vanaf een vlakke ondergrond. Het amfitheater is elliptisch van vorm met een diameter van 136 meter. De hoogte van de cavea, gemeten vanaf de basis, is 20 meter. De capaciteit van de zitplaatsen bedroeg tussen de 15.000 en 20.000 toeschouwers. Deze lagen waren bedekt met witte platen. Gladiatoren vochten in de arena. Wat de constructie betreft, waren de grotten van het amfitheater gebaseerd op een systeem van stenen gewelven dat de hele structuur omcirkelde. De grootsheid en technische prestaties van dit amfitheater getuigen van de bloei van de stad Durrës in de vroege eeuwen na Christus. Na sociale en economische veranderingen na de 4e eeuw functioneerde het amfitheater van Durrës niet meer als zodanig. In een van de galerijen werd in de 10e eeuw een Byzantijnse kapel gebouwd, waarvan de muren versierd waren met mozaïeken waarop verschillende figuren zijn afgebeeld.
