Over ons

InterContinental Edinburgh The George, een van de oudste en meest iconische hotels van Edinburgh, werd in 2018 van top tot teen gerenoveerd dankzij een investering van miljoenen ponden. Na de opening van het gloednieuwe restaurant Le Petit Beef Bar in juli 2023 en coffeeshop Burr & Co., heeft ook het hoofdhotel een eigen transformatie ondergaan. Naast de lobby en bibliotheek is de prachtige King's Hall, waar belangrijke evenementen en veel bruiloften in het stadscentrum worden gehouden, volledig gerenoveerd om veel van de originele historische kenmerken te laten zien. Gasten die in het hotel verblijven, zullen ook genieten van verbeteringen, waarbij de make-over is uitgebreid naar alle 239 kamers. In totaal zijn er ook 13 luxe suites gecreëerd, waaronder de kenmerkende Sommerville Suite met 2 slaapkamers, die vele internationale hoogwaardigheidsbekleders heeft verwelkomd. De interieurs, van de bekroonde architecten Goddard Littlefair, verwijzen zowel naar het architecturale erfgoed van het hotel als naar de zachte hooglandtinten die typerend zijn voor de Schotse landschappen. Het kleurenpalet wordt aangevuld met een rijke keuze aan materialen — waaronder eikenhout, messing, leer, fluweel en marmer — om enkele van de mooiste accommodaties te creëren die Edinburgh te bieden heeft. Met de trein reizen Het dichtstbijzijnde treinstation is Edinburgh Waverley Station en ligt op slechts een halve mijl of 10 minuten lopen van het hotel. Het heeft een directe verbinding met het London King's Cross treinstation. Een taxi nemen vanaf het station duurt ongeveer 5 minuten en het tarief is ongeveer £10. Over de weg reizen Parkeren op straat is elke dag gratis tussen 18.30 en 8.30 uur en is op zondag gratis tot 12.30 uur. Buiten deze uren is er een maximale parkeertijd van drie uur voor ongeveer £8,50 per uur. We bieden een voorkeurstarief voor onze gasten op de parkeerplaats van St James Quarter (postcode: EH1 3BP). Bij aankomst dient u uw bagage bij het hotel af te geven en onze conciërge zal u graag begeleiden. Houd er rekening mee dat vooraf geboekte plaatsen niet profiteren van de parkeerkorting van het hotel. Reis per vliegtuig De internationale luchthaven van Edinburgh ligt op slechts 11 km, of 25 minuten met de taxi, van InterContinental Edinburgh The George. Er is een reguliere tramdienst voor £6,50 voor een enkele reis, of £9,50 heen en terug, die ongeveer 40 minuten duurt en stopt op St Andrew Square. But this summer changes all that with the re-launch of Pier 17 at the Seaport District NYC. Home to the Seaport Museum and the city’s largest concentration of restored maritime buildings, Pier 17 is being reclaimed for New Yorkers via dynamic food, drink, art, architecture, retail, and entertainment concepts that foster community and engage the city’s denizens, year-round. Pier 17 and the surrounding Seaport District comes out of its tourist trap shadows as its new tenants incorporate the neighborhood’s rich past, while embracing its future as a port of discovery. For history buffs, Pier 17 is one of the most interesting places in NYC. The economic growth of New York in the first half of the 19th century was driven by the Port of New York’s position as an import–export exchange and cargo center for emerging American and global markets. The Seaport and Pier 17 became a gateway for international shipping, maritime activities and the wholesale fish trade. South Street was known as the “Street of Ships” and the Wavertree, which is docked alongside Pier 17 to this day, arrived in New York City in 1895 en route to Calcutta with jute cargo aboard. The ship was acquired by the South Street Seaport Museum in 1968 and went through a 16-month, $13 million restoration. “These are the kinds of ships that built New York,” says Jonathan Boulware, executive director of the South Street Seaport Museum. A hub of commercial virtue (the finance, sea trade and printing press businesses were all located in this dense port) and accompanying vice (the area is home to some of the city’s oldest drinking dens, which played host to all manner of illicit activities back in the day), the Seaport was the first 24-hour district in New York, hence the phrase “the city that never sleeps”.
