Er is bijna geen andere vakantiebestemming die zo'n gevarieerd landschap biedt op een oppervlakte van slechts 1532 km², daarom wordt Gran Canaria vaak een continent in het klein genoemd. Het zuiden van het eiland heeft de hoogste dichtheid aan golfbanen, met vijf binnen een straal van slechts 50 km.
