De Dom van Keulen is een rooms-katholieke kerk in Keulen, Duitsland. De bouw van de Dom van Keulen begon in 1248 en duurde, met onderbrekingen, tot 1880 voltooid. Met de twee torens die ongeveer 157 meter hoog zijn, is de Dom van Keulen een van de grootste kerken ter wereld. In 1996 werd de kathedraal toegevoegd aan de UNESCO-werelderfgoedlijst van cultureel belangrijke bezienswaardigheden. Bezoekers kunnen 509 treden van de wenteltrap beklimmen naar een uitkijkplatform dat ongeveer 98 meter boven de grond ligt. Als werelderfgoed en met zijn gunstige ligging trekt het jaarlijks meer dan 6 miljoen bezoekers.

De Dom van Keulen in Duitsland bezit een aanzienlijke verzameling religieuze schatten, waarvan de oorsprong teruggaat tot de 10e eeuw. Deze verzameling heilige voorwerpen is opgebouwd door zowel de actieve aankoop van reliekhouders door de kathedraal, de dagelijkse aankoop van ceremoniële vaten, gewaden en boeken voor de eredienst door de eeuwen heen, als door de geschenken van insignes van aartsbisschoppen en kathedraalministers, en is daarom nauw verbonden met de geschiedenis van de kathedraal.

Aan het einde van de jaren 60 creëerden de Ludwigs de grootste pop-artcollectie buiten de VS en schonken ze een groot deel aan de stad Keulen. In 1976 vormde dit de basis voor de oprichting van het Museum Ludwig. Naast Pop Art schonken de Ludwigs een uitgebreide collectie Russische Avantgarde uit de periode 1906 tot 1930 en enkele honderden werken van Pablo Picasso in permanente bruikleen aan het nieuwe museum, dat inmiddels met 180 originelen en 730 grafische kunstwerken de op twee na grootste Picasso-collectie ter wereld heeft.

Gebouwd boven de Romeinse stadsvilla met het wereldberoemde Dionysus-mozaïek, herbergt het Romano-Germaans Museum voorbeelden van kunst, cultuur en het dagelijks leven in het Romeinse en vroegmiddeleeuwse Keulen. Een hoogtepunt is de grootste collectie Romeins glas ter wereld met de driekleurige kooibeker en de miniatuurportretminiatuur van keizer Augustus in turkoois glas. De kunst van barbaarse volkeren in de vroege middeleeuwen komt tot uiting in verschillende soorten kostbare juwelen voor vrouwen en mannen - een vorm van kapitaal in de migratieperiode. Deze voorwerpen in het Romano-Germaans Museum maken deel uit van een van de rijkste vroege Europese collecties.
