Dublin Zoo opende haar deuren op 1 september 1831. Opgericht als een private samenleving door anatomen en natuurkundigen en ondersteund door rijke abonnees.
In 1840, met 46 zoogdieren en 72 vogels, geschonken door de London Zoo, was het radicale besluit om de poorten op zondag voor een cent open te zetten voor het publiek. Skerries Mills is een unieke verzameling van twee windmolens en een watermolen met bijbehorende molenvijver, molenraces, wetlands en is een ideale plek om te bezoeken tijdens een dagtocht.
In het Mill-complex zijn ook het Watermill Café en de Craft Shop gevestigd.
Sinds de 12e eeuw wordt op deze unieke locatie meel gemalen. Het volledig gerestaureerde complex brengt de authentieke werking van een windmolen met vijf zeilen, een windmolen met vier zeilen, een watermolen en een bakkerij uit de jaren 1800 tot leven. Dit geeft de bezoeker voorbeelden van hoe onze voorouders gebruik maakten van wind- en waterenergieën.
