Meer dan 10.000 jaar in de maak is de krater ontstaan toen smeltende sneeuw op de Wasatch Mountains diep in de aarde sijpelde. Drie kilometer onder het oppervlak verwarmde het binnenste van de aarde het water. Terwijl het naar boven sijpelde, nam het mineralen op, die vervolgens op het oppervlak werden afgezet en uiteindelijk de vulkaanvormige kalksteenafzetting vormden.
Het gat aan de bovenkant van de koepel laat zonlicht en frisse lucht binnen, terwijl het interieur het hele jaar door verwarmd blijft door het mineraalwater met een constant bereik van 96 graden Fahrenheit.
