Place Vendôme is een plein in het 1e arrondissement van Parijs, Frankrijk, gelegen ten noorden van de Tuilerieën en ten oosten van de Église de la Madeleine. Het is het startpunt van de Rue de la Paix. De regelmatige architectuur van Jules Hardouin-Mansart en frontonschermen over de hoeken geven het rechthoekige Place Vendôme het aspect van een achthoek. De oorspronkelijke Vendôme Column in het midden van het plein werd opgericht door Napoleon I ter herdenking van de slag bij Austerlitz; het werd op 16 mei 1871 afgebroken, bij decreet van de Commune van Parijs, maar vervolgens opnieuw opgericht en blijft vandaag een prominente rol op het plein.
Het is een van de meest luxueuze pleinen ter wereld. Op dit plein vind je prestigieuze merken zoals Chanel of Cartier.

Gelegen op Place de l'Opéra, gebouwd tussen 1861 en 1875 door de architect Charles Garnier, het operagebouw Palais Garnier heeft een rijk versierde gevel, een monumentale trap en een Italiaans auditorium met 1.900 zitplaatsen met een plafond beschilderd door Marc Chagall, verlicht door een enorme kristallen kroonluchter. Dit gebouw is een perfect voorbeeld van 19e-eeuwse architectuur die zijn metalen structuur verbergt onder veel decoratieve elementen. Van 1881 tot heden heeft het verschillende perioden van restauratie- en moderniseringswerkzaamheden ondergaan waardoor het functioneler is geworden. Maria Callas en Rudolf Nureyev zijn enkele van de vele artiesten die hier hebben bijgedragen aan de geschiedenis van opera en ballet. Tot de opening van het operagebouw Bastille presenteerde het operagebouw Palais Garnier alleen ballet. Sindsdien is het teruggekeerd naar zijn oorspronkelijke roeping om een academie voor muziek, dans en opera te zijn. Naast een show kunnen bezoekers ook een tentoonstelling bezoeken of de grote zaal die geopend is van 11.00 tot 16.30 uur om het rijk vergulde en roodfluwelen decor te waarderen. Er zijn speciale activiteiten voor kinderen.

Het Louvre, in zijn opeenvolgende architectonische metamorfosen, domineert sinds het einde van de 12e eeuw het centrum van Parijs. Gebouwd aan de westelijke rand van de stad, werd het oorspronkelijke gebouw geleidelijk overspoeld naarmate de stad groeide. Het donkere fort van vroeger werd omgevormd tot de gemoderniseerde woning van François I en later het weelderige paleis van de Zonnekoning, Lodewijk XIV.
