De tempel van Ḩaġar Qim staat op een heuveltop met uitzicht op de zee en het eilandje Filfla, niet meer dan 2 km ten zuidwesten van het dorp Qrendi. Onderaan de heuvel, op slechts 500 meter afstand, ligt nog een opmerkelijke tempelsite, Mnajdra, die boven de zuidelijke kliffen ligt. Het omringende landschap is typisch mediterrane garigue en spectaculair in zijn grimmigheid en isolatie. Het bezoek aan de tempels van Haġar Qim en Mnajdra ligt verspreid over het bezoekerscentrum met de ticketverkoop-, receptie-, winkel- en expositieruimtes en een klein 4D-theater.
