De Turia-tuinen zijn een openbaar park van 110 ha; het ligt in de stad Valencia. Dit park is een van de meest bezochte parken van Valencia en Spanje. Het is de grootste puur stadstuin van Spanje. Opgericht in 1986, enkele decennia na de grote overstroming van Valencia. Na de overstroming waren het stadsbestuur en de regering van Spanje in de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw van plan om een communicatiekern (snelwegen en ander transport) aan te leggen die de haven met de luchthaven zou verbinden en ook het interne verkeer zou solventaseren. Later, na de burgerbeweging 'i nostre the Riu is the volem Green' (de rivier is van ons en wij willen groen), vond er een ommekeer plaats in zijn bekering op een plek van vrije tijd en natuur voor burgers en bezoekers. In 1986 werd het park geopend in een van de meest centraal gelegen gedeelten naast de Jardines de Real (in de volksmond 'Kinderdagverblijven'). De tuin doorkruist de stad van praktisch de haven, meer bepaald van de Stad van Kunsten en Wetenschappen tot het nieuwe Bioparc, ter vervanging van de oude dierentuin van Valencia.

Het Institut Valencià d'Art Modern, IVAM, werd in 1986 opgericht met de goedkeuring van de oprichtingswet als publiekrechtelijke entiteit door het Valenciaanse parlement. Kennis, uitbreiding, bescherming, promotie en verspreiding van moderne en hedendaagse kunst zijn de belangrijkste doelstellingen. Het activiteitenprogramma omvat de tentoonstelling van de kunstcollectie, de organisatie van tijdelijke tentoonstellingen en de uitgave van catalogi en andere publicaties waarin dieper wordt ingegaan op de onderwerpen van de exposities, evenals de organisatie van conferenties, cursussen, workshops en concerten die verband houden met de tentoongestelde werken en andere gebieden van de hedendaagse kunst. De ruimte waarin zich bevindt, het Centre Julio González, is een nieuw gebouw dat in 1989 werd geopend en waarin de museumcollectie naast andere tijdelijke tentoonstellingen wordt tentoongesteld. Het heeft ook een zaal, de Sala de la Muralla, gelegen in de kelder van het gebouw waar de overblijfselen van het middeleeuwse fort van de stad bewaard zijn gebleven.

Hiertoe heeft het de BIOPARC Foundation opgericht. Bioparc Valencia is actief geïntegreerd in de organisaties die zich inzetten voor het behoud van de natuur en in het bijzonder in de IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), die wordt bestuurd door een fundamenteel argument, namelijk: behoud van het leefgebied van de soort, het is absoluut noodzakelijk om de soort zelf te redden.
