Hiertoe behoren het National Museum of African Art, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Arts and Industries Building en Freer Gallery of Art. Het Smithsonian informatiecentrum bevindt zich in het Smithsonian Institution Building, ook wel bekend als het kasteel. Het gebouw is gebouwd van rode zandsteen in 1855 en bezoekers kunnen het gebouw zelf bezoeken, dat wisselende exposities herbergt, de Enid A.
