Alcatraz Island ligt in San Francisco Bay, 2,01 km voor de kust van San Francisco, Californië, Verenigde Staten. Het kleine eiland werd ontwikkeld met faciliteiten voor een vuurtoren, een militaire vesting, een militaire gevangenis (1868) en een federale gevangenis van 1934 tot 1963.
