Het is een van de oudste kerken in Zwitserland en wordt verondersteld afkomstig te zijn uit 853, op precies dezelfde plek waar ooit een abdij voor vrouwen van aristocratische families stond. Het interieur van de kerk is betoverend met glas-in-loodramen ontworpen door niemand minder dan Marc Chagall. De kerk beschikt ook over elementen uit niet alleen romaanse maar ook gotische architectuurstijlen. Bekijk zeker het grootste orgel in Zürich dat in de kerk is gehuisvest. Het is ook de thuisbasis van een museum in de crypte waar je meer te weten kunt komen over het Reformatietijdperk in Zürich.

De Grossmünster-kerk is een iconisch symbool van Zürich. Het is een protestantse kerk die in de 13e eeuw in romaanse stijl werd gebouwd. De bouw van de kerk begon in 1100 en is sindsdien meerdere keren herbouwd en gerenoveerd. Er wordt aangenomen dat de kerk werd gebouwd op de graven van de patroonheiligen van de stad, Felix en Regula en gebouwd door Karel de Grote als een oriëntatiepunt van het klooster. Je kunt de 187 trappen oplopen die van het schip naar het uitkijkpunt van de toren leiden. Vanaf daar heb je een geweldig uitzicht over de stad Zürich, het meer en majestueuze bergtoppen aan de horizon.
