Nadat de pruimenbloesems zijn gevallen, komt sumo naar Osaka; het jaarlijkse Osaka Tournament vindt midden maart plaats in het Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. De kleurrijke spandoeken die bij elke worstelaar horen, staan voor de zaal en de enorme worstelaars zijn te zien terwijl ze door de straten van de stad lopen.
Zomer in Osaka
De komst van de zomer betekent het belangrijkste festival van Osaka, de Tenjin Matsuri, dat altijd op 24 en 25 juli wordt gehouden. Een van de drie grootste festivals van Japan, de Tenjin, bestaat uit kleurrijke optochten van binnenschepen op de rivieren van Osaka, levendige optredens en fel vuurwerk. De hele stad komt tot leven voor dit festival, dat honderdduizenden toeschouwers uit de omliggende regio's trekt.
