The Cook Hotel offers 128 well-appointed Deluxe Guest Rooms and Luxury Suites featuring plush Sealy Posturepedic beds, luxurious triple sheeting with duvet comforters, complimentary in-room wireless and wired internet, dual-port chargers, flat screen televisions, on-demand entertainment and a tastefully selected LSU-themed decor. The Cook Hotel is located on the campus of LSU and is open to the public. Our rooms feature plush Sealy beds, luxurious triple sheeting, duvet comforters, feather pillows, high definition televisions and more. The Shaquille O'Neal Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail with friends or family. There are several opportunities for recreation and fun. The Lod Cook Alumni Center is the focal point for the conference facility and enjoys a reputation for superior service and delicious catering.

BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo was first envisioned by the Recreation and Parks Commission in 1960. In 1965, voters approved a millage election that allocated over three-quarters of a million dollars to build the facility. A zoo director was hired to design and implement the plans, and matching funds were secured from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation.
Construction began in 1966, and the zoo officially opened to the public on Easter Sunday in 1970. Residents of East Baton Rouge embraced the new zoo, developing a strong sense of community ownership, inspired by local television personality Buckskin Bill. His rallying call, “Baton Rouge needs a zoo,” helped unify support across the parish.

LSU Mike the Tier Habitat

Mike the Tiger, a famed live Bengal Tiger that serves as the graphic image of all LSU Athletics teams, resides between Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. In 2005, a $3.7 million 15,000-square foot environment was created during the reign of Mike V that included lush planting, a live oak tree, a waterfall and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees. On the first day of the 2017 fall semester at LSU, Mike VII officially began his reign. Mike VII, who has both Siberian and Bengal characteristics, was donated to LSU from a sanctuary in Okeechobee, Fla., called “Wild at Heart Wildlife Center.”
