Southern Sun de Wagen is an elegant boutique hotel in the heart of South Africa’s most famous wine region. A collection of historic farmstead buildings dating back to the early 1900s have been restored and re-imagined to create a unique and charming boutique hotel in Stellenbosch. A storied history connects Southern Sun de Wagen with South Africa’s early wine and fruit farms of Vredenberg and Lanzerac, and Sir Herbert Baker’s renowned architecture. The establishment’s white-walled Cape Dutch heritage is complemented by elegant interiors across the hotel’s three country houses (Wagenhuis, Kuyperhuis and Roeshuis), which together offer a collection of 22 bedrooms. Indigenous flora frames a courtyard pool at Kuyperhuis, welcoming lounge areas add to the ambience, and De Volkskombuis restaurant invites guests to experience memorable dining and local wines. Sharing its history with the hotel, De Volkskombuis’ contemporary approach to traditional dishes incorporates the region’s seasonal produce. Experience farm-style dining beside the fire in the restaurant, under the shade of ancient trees or in the privacy of your hotel room.
