The parks are situated directly across Davie Street from each other, anchoring Greensboro's Cultural Arts District.

David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr. (now Jibreel Khazan), and Joseph McNeil were freshmen at North Carolina A&T State University when they courageously launched the historic lunch counter sit-in on February 1, 1960, in downtown Greensboro. Their bold stand against racial injustice sparked a wave of similar protests across the country and became a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement.
