The head-to-head carving challenges will also return to the event on Saturdays at 1:30 and 3:00. Carvers will compete in a stadium setting for a $1,000 cash prize each weekend. Carving teams will also be doing their best to win the People’s Choice Award for a huge cash prize. Plan your visit and cast your vote for the most impressive carving. As always, this event is free and open to the general public. Carvers will be working throughout the event on their sculptures. Activities, vendors, and head-to-head carving competitions will only take place on the weekends (Feb 14-16 and Feb 21-22), including President’s Day. The vendor and activities will happen between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Rita the Rock Planter was built in Victor, Colorado in 2023. She is a breathtaking 21 feet tall and created out of recycled wood. That’s two stories of troll, making her the tallest of the Colorado Trolls without even standing! Her gigantic frame was built in just 12 days, put together with care by a team of talented volunteers at an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet. As far as trolls go, Rita is one of the raddest. She sits out in the open on Little Grouse Mountain near two of the oldest mining towns in the West — no trees to dwarf her magnificence and plenty of room to impress. Dambo usually has some sort of take to accompany his creations. Rita’s is sweet and simple and oh so fitting of the region.

Phantom Canyon Road is a scenic, 20-mile unpaved dirt road (County Road 67) connecting Victor and Florence, Colorado, forming part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway. Formerly a narrow-gauge railroad route, it features two tunnels,, steep drop-offs without guardrails, and stunning rocky canyon scenery. The drive is generally accessible to 2WD vehicles but can be narrow and washboardy.
