Airport facilities now include a terminal building, restaurant, hangars, and numerous other airplane-related businesses. In 1988, an air traffic control tower was opened by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). By this time SBP had scheduled service from Wings West, Skywest, WestAir, and later American Eagle. Passenger service from San Luis Obispo was here to stay. Service today is provided by United Airlines, American Airlines, and Alaska Airlines through their respective regional partners.

The Fair opened in 1946 and was first known as the San Luis Obispo County Fair. The California Mid-State Fair is held annually and runs for 12 days at the end of July. The Fair has hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry. Artists such as Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Journey, Rod Stewart, Fergie, Justin Bieber, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Kenny Chesney have all performed on our Main Grandstand Arena stage. Internationally-acclaimed artist Bruce Munro has premiered his largest artwork to date—an enormous multi-acre walk-through installation—at Sensorio in Paso Robles, California. Bruce Munro: Field of Light at Sensorio is comprised of an array of over 58,800 stemmed spheres lit by fiber-optics, gently illuminating the landscape in subtle blooms of morphing color that describe the undulating landscape. Powered by solar, the stunning exhibition captivates visitors, inviting them to engage with the landscape and environment through an ethereal light-based and sculptural experience.
